    That depends on where y'all are. Your contour says, "IN" simply that could mean either Republic of india or Indiana, and then far as I know. Probably a few hundred other places too.

    If you're from Indiana rather than Republic of india, then I might be able to help a bit. I'chiliad in Illinois, but I have a friend who was telling me virtually it. It was close but not quite the same.

    Heck, I'll end with the speculation. Both Illinois and Indiana have changed in recent years, then what you need to practise is contact the Indiana DNR and ask them nearly the requirements. Fifty-fifty if someone has electric current information well-nigh that, y'all're best off to cheque.

    In Illinois, they require that you pay taxes on that boat before you tin register it, or at least concurrently with registration. So you lot need a bill of materials, and any receipts you may take. Whatever parts you do not take proof of having paid the state sales tax on, we need to pay the vii.5% state sales tax on it.

    I had registered a hovercraft several years agone, and while they had the inspection they did non yet have the sales tax thing. I started my next hover and and then by the time it came fourth dimension to register it, they slapped me with the taxes and I had near no receipts. I wound up paying taxes twice on more than half my materials.

    Moreover, there is a huge number of boat thefts in Illinois. What they practise is steal the boat, remove the serial numbers so register information technology as a homemade boat. The Illinois DNR is all over that practice. I empathise that if you claim homemade boat, it's almost guaranteed that you volition get a "safety inspection" which is actually having a DNR guy come over to make sure it's non a Bayliner with no serial number.

    Given that our states are neighbors (if yous're actually from Indiana) so I suspect much of this transfers over to your land.

    Most states crave the boat to exist registered in it'due south operating waters.

    Abode fabricated boats typically require a title before information technology can be registered. Titles are usually handled past the state DMV or Highway Safety department.

    Contact the local DMV or apply a title visitor.

    Geez. This is so uncomplicated information technology makes me cring to read threads like this.

    The USCG regs alllow for home built boats. Each country is assigned a manufacturer'south Identification code so that the state tin assign a Hull Identification Number to the boat. All you have to exercise is go to the registration part and tell them you built the boat. They will take you fill out and sign a class that attests that y'all actually congenital information technology. They volition register the gunkhole, assign an HIN and if it is a Title land, outcome a championship.

    Here is a link to a web page for all boating related offices in Indiana http://world wide web.nasbla.org/i4a/member_directory/feResultsListing.cfm?directory_id=iii

    Hither'south the Indiana web folio that tells you lot in one judgement what I just said.

    PS: I don't go to Indiana anymore. Every fourth dimension I go there I become a ticket. It is the only state I accept ever been ticketed in, in virtually fifty years of driving.

    In my State,WV, I had to accept "most" of my material receips, forth with two pictures of the Gunkhole to my DMV.
    1. Paid sales taxation on materials {5%}
    ii. Paid Title Fee {$5.00}
    3. Paid Registration Fee (stock-still toll,based on when during 3 yr term)- $15-$xxx
    I later received in mail service:
    a} Title
    b} Registration card with Hinn no.+ sticker placed within Boat as well as "burned" into wood some where inside the gunkhole
    c} Hull no,s to be placed on sides of boat most bow

    Sounds rather involved but was fairly like shooting fish in a barrel and painless (depending on materials was less than $100)
